Physical education and art classes should be required in school

트로피이미지

Introduction
Many people believe that physical education and art classes should not be required in school. They believe that school time should be dedicated to academic subjects such as math, language arts, and science. However, others argue that physical education and art serve important purposes. So, should students be required to take these classes during school time? In today’s debate, Ashley and Henry will discuss whether physical education and art should be mandatory in school. Let’s see what our debaters have to say about this topic.

Henry (Constructive)
Physical education and art classes should be required in school. Although they are not academic subjects, they are still important for a child’s development and wellbeing. Physical education classes teach students how to live active lives. They also teach important values, such as teamwork and perseverance. Finally, physical education classes are important because kids need physical exercise to stay healthy. Art is also very important. Art classes teach children to be creative. Students are also able to express themselves through their art.

Ashley (Constructive)
Physical education and art classes should not be required in school. School time should be dedicated to serious subjects like math, language arts, or science. Students need to focus on these academic subjects in order to have a prosperous future. Physical education and art classes are a complete waste of time. There are many kids who do not like sports or art. However, they are forced to waste school time to attend these useless classes. The point of school is academics!

Henry (Rebuttal)
The only reason you are against physical education and art classes is that you do not like exercise or art! Just because you prefer academic classes does not mean that physical education and art classes are a waste of time. I know that there are students like you who do not like sports or art. There are also students who do not like math or science. However, all these classes should be mandatory because they are helpful to students.

Ashley (Rebuttal)
I’m not arguing that we ban physical education and art classes. I just think they should be optional. I do not think that there are many benefits to taking physical education and art classes. It is much more beneficial for students to fully dedicate school time to academic subjects. I do not need physical education classes to be healthy because I exercise with my family. Because I prefer to express myself through creative writing, I do not need art classes, either.

Judge’s Comments
The winner of today’s debate is Henry. Henry made powerful points in his constructive argument. He listed the many benefits of physical education and art classes. Ashley needed to challenge Henry’s arguments in her rebuttal. Instead she simply stated that she thinks there are limited benefits to taking physical education and art classes. She then used personal examples to explain why she does not need physical education and art classes. It is not recommendable to use individual examples as evidence.
