Gloves Read Sign Language0“Our purpose for developing these gloves was to provide an easy-to-use bridge between native speakers of American Sign Language and the rest of the world, and accessing to communication is a fundamental human right,” said Navid Azodi and Thomas Pryor. The two students who go to the University of Washington (UW) won $10,000 at Lemelson-MIT student Prize. These two students first met in the dormitory in their freshman year. They became intimate and found out they shared a lot in common, including invention and problem solving. Since they always desired to reduce the communication gap between people who are having hearing problems and those who are not. They spent time together to invent upgraded “Signaloud” gloves. The previously released translate gloves are huge and heavy. According to UW Today “Our gloves are lightweight, compact and worn on the hands, but ergonomic enough to use as an everyday accessory, similar to hearing aids or contact lenses,” said Thomas.

The sensors attached to the gloves read hand gestures or movements, and send the date to a computer via Bluetooth. Then, the computer examines the data, translate it into words, and is played through an equipment.
