New Walking Robot Smartphone

The Sharp Corporation in Japan announced on Oct. 6 the “RoBoHoN,” a humanoid robot cellphone. Humanoid means to look or act like a human. RoBoHoN is scheduled to be released on the market during the first half of 2016.
This robot cellphone is 19.5 cm tall and weighs 390 grams, so it can be carried in people’s pockets. It can walk on two feet, recognize faces, and communicate with users. And people can send emails by giving voice orders. The cellphone can also take photographs and shoot video. The robot smartphone expresses feelings and performs various tasks for people, like an assistant.
Tomotaka Takahashi, a research associate professor at the University of Tokyo, developed RoBoHon. He said, “The voice recognition function of smartphones develops every day, but people have received unwelcome attention talking into smartphones. The familiar figures of RoBoHoNs would reduce this and make such a difference.” Meanwhile, the Sharp Corporation applied all technologies that it has developed so far. Examples include voice, conversation, and mind search engines, and artificial intelligence.
