Cai Lun

In 105, Cai Lun invented paper. First, he boiled bamboo, hemp scraps, old rags, fishnets, and tree bark until they became soft. Then, he pounded them and mixed the mixture with water. After removing the water using wooden sieves, he dried the mixture to create paper.

As a Chinese court official, Cai Lun reported the new process to the emperor. The emperor rewarded Cai Lun with fame and wealth for his brilliant invention. People began writing on paper instead of expensive silk or bamboo and wood strips.
