Ju Si-gyeong

Ju Si-gyeong was an esteemed scholar who revolutionized the Korean language. Ju Si-gyeong compiled a comprehensive collection of words and their meanings to provide future generations with a valuable linguistic resource. In 1911, he created Malmoi, the first-ever Korean dictionary. By standardizing vocabulary, he fostered effective communication and deepened our understanding of Korean culture. In 1912, he came up with a new term, “Hangul,” to reference the writing system created by King Sejong. His love for the Korean language continues to enrich our lives.
