John Newbery

John Newbery loved books. Newbery believed that children should have books written just for them. So, he published over 100 books for kids throughout his publishing career. These books were full of fun stories and colorful pictures. The books Newbery published became very popular. Over time, people called him the “Father of Children’s Literature.” The John Newbery Medal was created in 1922 to honor Newbery’s efforts to support children’s books. Writers of outstanding children’s books receive this medal.
