Many people compare Nam Ja-hyeon with An Jung-geun, who assassinated Ito Hirobumi in 1909. Nam Ja-hyeon participated in the March 1st Movement in 1919. She moved to Manchuria and joined an independence movement there as well. As an activist, she carried out many missions. She also tried to assassinate Saito Makoto, the Governor-General of Korea, in 1925. She was arrested and died in 1933. In 1962, Nam Ja-hyeon received the Order of Merit for National Foundation for her contributions to the Korean independence movement.
